Classical ballet is the pride of Russia, Marius Petipa is the pride of Russian ballet: every third ballet poster in the country is named after him. Is it possible to see the real Petipa today – and what do we really know about him? He escaped from the French justice with a fake birth certificate, all his life he pointed out a fake year of birth. His late memoirs are difficult to consider reliable.
